I've just bought this SI hatchback. I'm completely lame when it comes to tuning. I just wanna know where to start. What upgrades can I do that aren't gonna cost me an arm and a leg.

If you don't think you're going to have a lot to spend on it in the near future, get a cold air intake (make sure you get a bypass valve if there's any chance of the car going through water up to its bottom), a nice high flow muffler on 2.25 inch pipe (get a muffler shop to custom build you a pipe that is as straight as possible or buy a kit online), and a header.

If you ARE going to spend a lot on it in the future ($3000+) then consider your boosting options. That is best done by going to a car-specific forum and seeing what others have done. Hondas usually prefer turbos which would require a much bigger pipe and the kit would provide a different intake by design, which means it would be best to start with the turbo/intercooler at low boost if you just want to start out, following soon with 3 inch exhaust and a high-flow muffler.

Then you'd want to check again on the forum and find out what the weak points of that motor are (wrist pins, seals, camshaft, etc) and replace those internal components. That way you can get more boost with your already nice set up. At this point you'd probably want to upgrade your fuel delivery system (fuel pump, rail, injectors, etc) and your computer (onboard tuning or chip tuned to your car's specs, both are available) so that the car can adequately provide the fuel needed.

At this point you need to, before doing any serious racing, upgrade your brakes (calipers, rotors, pads, change fluid to DOT 5) and suspension (lower if you prefer, stiffer struts, better bushings, strut tower bar, anything else available). This is ABSOLOUTLEY CRITICAL as your car has to be able to handle itself and the factory components are not designed to handle the kind of power you'd be looking at at this point.

Wow...this is probably more info than you wanted...lol

Probobly start with the chip, get a computer that changes the computer on the car, but when you get to the point on spending a couple thousand dollors at a time get a turbo charger or a super or a pro charger, but if you do that you would be spending about 6,000 at a time so that won't work, go to www.rpmoutlet.com and see if they got hondas cause they migh, the site gives you a huge selection on parts and they discribe them and they tell you how much hp you will get from that part, also get some high proformence plugs and wires cause that can add about 10 hp on your car for very little money, but go to the site check it out.

eu Programmers are no longer low priced and don't upload a adequate quantity of horsepower on certainly Aspirated engines, they purely artwork wonders on inventory speedier/Supercharged engines in view that they are in a position to crank out lots extra horsepower. a chilly air intake, no longer a quick ram intake, will help out with horsepower, besides as gasoline mileage. So will a unfastened flowing exhaust, alongside with headers and an entire cat decrease back exhaust. a extra physically powerful intake manifold will entice extra air to the motor, increasing horsepower, fantastically on the Si in view that's a DOHC, no longer a SOHC like my civic. Switching camshafts to degree a million racing cams may additionally severely boost backside end torque from Skunk 2 Racing. All of those aspects are obtainable on any Honda overall performance internet site or any Import overall performance internet site donning honda aspects. Oh, and throwing a speedier on your vehicle without top boost your motor will blow your engine to no longer something while it overheats and detonates. Honda's are no longer designed to cope with advance., and throwing a speedier on an Si would not beat an evo. I very own an 06 Evo 9 MR. No front wheel force civic beats a 300 Horsepower All Wheel force evo.

Depends on what you would like to do with the car. Will it be just a street car? Will you track it? Drag or road race? The first thing that I would do would be to sign up on some Honda forums like hondatech.com. Ask them as they would know much better than most people on here.
