I have an interview with one of the directors for a cosmetology program at a college on thursday, I have no clue what to wear. Should I dress business-casual, like dress pants and a button-up shirt, or more trendy like capris with a lacy tank top? I'm not sure how dressed up to get. I appreciate any advice! Thanks.

This is what I was thinking of wearing:
Black lacy tank top, blue-ish silver capris with a satin belt, and black open-toe heels. Is that too underdressed?

oh by the way, its not a job interview, its a requirement to interview with the director as part of the application to the school's program.

wear something that can be business like but not something that shows you were trying too hard ,sometime times the right necklace or bracelet will take a casual outfit and turn it into business attire

Dear, If you want this job, forget the capris and the lacy tank top. When you go for an interview, you must dress conservatively. If I were you, I would wear the following:
A neutral pair of the nicest dress pants you own, not overly tight and the pants should be long, not capri length
A Short Cropped Jacket or blazer
A cap sleeved simple shell or blouse (nothing low cut)
Simple jewelry (No chandilier earrings or rhinestone)
Preferably simple gold chain and a small pair of gold earrings
Simple pumps
Pantihose
Makeup should be natural looking. Not too much eyeliner, no garish eyeshadow, sheer foundation, mascara, soft blush and lip gloss.
Now, this is probably not the way you normally dress, but for interviews we should dress the way the interviewer expects us to dress. Even though this interview is for something having to do with Cosmetology, you are still meeting with a college interviewer and dressing like you were going to a pub for a few drinks with friends is not appropriate.
Hope you take my advice. Good Luck

The outfit you described sounds cute, but not for an interview. You should definitely go business casual, but you can put a little of your personality in to it.
But a little.
Black dress slacks, fitted white dress shirt, and a fantastic pair of earrings, shoes and handbag.
Wearing black slacks and white shirt does not have to be boring. it is very classic, and you can find many many styles.

In an interview, it is ALWAYS better to overdress than underdress. No one will be offended because you look nice and professional. But dress too casual, and you've lost your chance at the job.

Cosmetologist are usually preferred to white black or black & white. Definitely go with the dress pants and a white button up shirt with layering vest (optional).

Try to blend it a little of both. You can wear a frilly skirt with really nice heals, a tank top and to add that business look put on a jacket.

Business-casual. Doesn't matter where you're interviewing - from fast food to retail to corporate...you always dress for the job you WANT to have.

I would try to look as professional as possible. It will give the impression that you are taking the interview seriously. As the saying goes: You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

The clearance parts of trend-wise shops like Bealls or Kohls or in spite of fantastic shops you stay by ability of. The clearance section oftentimes has stuff that's sturdy for someone petite (i know, i'm short). once you're having problem searching pants that fit correct then ignore the pants, skirts are always sturdy for a petite body, and that i want longer skirts. i do not imagine mini skirts flatter short legs in any respect.

Dress in a slimming skirt but not too short, high heels and a femine blouse, but nothing too revealing.
