I was just wondering how do you decide who's going in the next level? Is it more about the net run rate or the number of games you win?

Let's say that...
SL win 3
India 1
Bangladesh 2
Bermuda 0

In this case, if India has a higher net run rate than Bangla does this qualify India for the next level or is it based on number of wins?

Situation number 2:
SL lost again India and that puts them on 2 wins
India 2 wins
Bangladesh beats bermuda

In this situation you have a 3 way tie, so who's going in the next level?

They look at points first. For a win you get 2 points, for a tie 1 point and a loss no points. The two teams with the highest amount of points moves on to the Super 8. If there's a tie, then they look at the net run rate.

Here's how the tables look now for the group India's in

ICC World Cup: Group B

GP Won Lost Tie N/R RUNR Pts
1Sri Lanka 1 1 0 0 0 4.86 2.0
2India 2 1 1 0 0 2.5 2.0
3 Bangladesh 1 1 0 0 0 0.13 2.0
4 Bermuda 2 0 2 0 0 -5.0 0.0

So if the rest of the matches were washed out...India and Sri Lanka would move on = ).

But Bangla still has one more match vs Bermuda and against Sri Lanka...so thats why its crucial that India wins against Sri Lanka by a wide margin...if they had won against Bangla, the y wouldn't have to be at the mercy of the performaces of the other teams

Net Run Rate really matters when any 2 or more teams are tied up in their points.

In your

Situation 1: NRR doesnt matter because Srilanka and Bangladesh automatically qualifies with higher points.

Situation 2 : Here is where NRR plays its role. The 2 teams to get qualified for the next round is deceided by the teams NRR. The two teams with higher NRR will qualify for the next round.

no..it isn't as u r thinking.............see,if india, bangladesh have 2 wins each and srilanka has three then sri lanka will be quallified easily but in case of the other two teams the run rate will matter as they do have the same points...........understood??????????
