At one time or another we all do and say certain things to get the response that we want. If I want something from someone i might kiss but for a while til I get it, then I might just blow them off til I need something else from them. sometimes I might act like I like someone all the while trying to remove them from my life trying to let them down easy so they don't even suspect it. If you want something you go for it don't you? When you finally get what you want somewhere along the line you acted or did something in a certain way to get it..... PERIOD. It happens and we all do it. It's human nature... Survival of the Fittest.

It's kind of unclear what you're asking but I'll answer what I think you meant...

While sometimes it seems like people act like this and sometimes they do, in the vast amount of human behavior we act the way we do because deep down we feel that the behavior will either help us avoid negative effects and feelings, or lead us to positive effects and feelings. We do schoolwork either to advance our career which leads to the reward of money and respect, or to avoid punishment or belittling from authority figures. We eat food pretty much because we enjoy it...it brings us pleasure and our brain rewards us for eating. So I suppose it isn't that big of a leap to say someone does a specific behavior in order to gain a specific positive reward instead of working in generalities.

Co-dependent on conscious and subconscious manifestations of thought... it is this that creates the "act". In the act of expression it is only the ego in which wishes to capitalize thus seeking the return.

One may also choose to teach the ego to understand that there is nothing to seek in return. Examples: selfless service and unconditional love.

I suppose occasionally I act in a way intended to get something I want but not to be deceptive just being extra nice or something like that.

Yes I think so, that's what we do at our jobs everyday, we work hard, work extra hours, take on extra task all with a smile. Hoping that this behavior gets us a good appraisal and a little extra $$$$$ or whatever the case.

Yes, we all do.
The need or desire for self-gratification allows one to behave in ways that facilitates that particular need or desire.
We behave differently depending on a given set of circumstances or conditions.
I do it as often as needed.
I'm not talking about "Kiss'in Butt"--that's humiliating and demeaning. I'm talking about responding not reacting.

It's not as strong as manipulation but its along the same lines. Everyone does this. If they don't then they are simple allowing others to control them.

Yes. I give my husband the respect he has earned so that he needs me even now. He will need me forever. It's sad.
