My son is 21 months and I took the bumper pad off at 15 months. However, I put it back on b/c my kid is a wild sleeper and kept hitting his head which woke him up and gave him bruises! So he still has a bumper pad and I'll probably just keep it on until I move him to a toddler bed(2 years). I'd say the normal is around year to 18 months, but every kid is different.

My daughter is 16 months, but its necessary that we keep the bumpers on because she moves around a lot when sleeping and gets her leg caught in the bars if the bumper isnt in it. If you have a very active-sleeping child, keep them on.... just in case. If not, then they aren't really necessary.
And plus, I dont see what the worry is about your child climbing out of the crib. Your crib should be adjustable, so adjust the mattress to a lower level. Even if your child chose to stand on top of the bumper, it won't get them any more than an inch and a half higher at the max!

I've always had a bumper on the crib, I never knew you were 'supposed' to take them off at any point. My daughter is 2 1/2 and still in her crib with the bumper pad, I just always kept an eye on her, and it's never caused any problems - so I don't see any reason to remove it.

My daughter is 5 months now, and I still have the bumper on her bed. It's necessary because she scoots all over at night and usually ends up against an edge. When she starts to be ableto pull herself up and climb, I'll take it off because I don't want her trying to use it to climb out of her crib.

Crib bumpers are a SIDS risk and they help kids climb out of the crib when they are older. I have never used them and never would.
You wouldn't let your baby sleep with a blanket or a quilt and yet you tie a bumper (very much like a pillow or very fluffy quilt) to the edges of the crib? Makes no sense.

as quickly as I heard on the subject of the crib bumper increasing the prospect of SIDS I took it off the crib, my daughter enjoyed finding on the colours tho so finally I positioned it back on (2days later). yet I used them for 8months while she commencing status up interior the crib and untying the tied and straps. Do what makes you experience maximum gentle. in case you do leave them on make beneficial while your baby can pass slowly or pull up take them down because of the fact childrens will use them the step up farther

We left them up until my child was starting to pull up. Didn't want him to stand on them and make an escape, so the bumpers went away at that point.
