Anne - is your contempt for the human species genetically or culturally acquired?

The root cause of poverty is the unequal opportunity given to most people to even get on the first rung of the "ladder to success".

For the wealthy to create totally false and inaccurate propositions that poverty and crime are significantly related to genetics (you will note that I said "significantly") is a no brainer.

Of course many illnesses are partly genetically caused and genetic research is needed to treat these illnesses but in the meantime there's a lot of suffering can be cured now that isn't.

The root cause of poverty is NOT genetic. We all have free will. We can all get off our back sides and make an effort to improve our situation.

Laziness, and the victim mentality are the primary causes of poverty. Crime is also a personal choice. We can choose to commit a crime, or we can choose not to. The choice is ours.

Illness is sometimes genetic. How would would you suggest solving that problem? We need to do the best we can to preserve our health. This involves staying away from drugs. I don't think alcohol has any redeeming social value either. The same goes for tobacco.

It's time to stop playing the victim. We need to take charge of our lives.

Because it has less to do with genetics and more to do with a number of other factors.

Poverty I think is more of an educational thing. If you educate your people then they will have more options. The more options they have the better their chances. The less educated the people the less work options, the less they know about systems that can help them as well.

Illness comes from not washing your hands usually. Plus if you are in a big metropolitan area everyone gets sick, so unless you also wish to move people from cities, it just won't work.

As for crime, that's usually decided by the individual, not his/her genetics. One can have the predisposition to become a murdered yet never do it, because it's not for him. However it's said that most abuse is suffered in a home, so this is by normal people, not those that would be predisposed one would think.

As for why you wouldn't want to change the genetics, it's because you are going against nature. Nature diversifies us for a reason, if we start engineering every small thing then it's us who decides what we become. The problem with that is if something comes along that requires us to adapt, like say a meteor, and you can't engineer the people fast enough, yet natural genetics gives us enough variance.

Also, if we start changing one thing, then we will have to change more and more, until we're homogenized. Seriously, I would hate to live in a society full of beige people. And that's what it would become, because when you remove the genetics of poverty, crime and illness you'd find some other flaw, or the people who lack the poverty, crime and illness genes would find flaws in others, and work to fix it, and each would build on each other until you're left with something plain that cannot offend anyone.

I'm not sure about lumping poverty, crime, and illness together. Nor am I certain that your statement is correct. Why do you believe their cause is partly genetic?
And... when you say the remedy should be partly genetic are you implying that it is 'only right' to mess around with people's genes or are you trying to support selective genocide?

The following is an answer and a question to your question.

Is it nature OR is it nurture?

Poverty is nurture...your genetic pool cheering you on as you climb out of poverty through education and/or hard work.

Crime can be either...your genetic pool leaves you the legacy of Ted Bundy murderous genes or leads by example and/or you're to lame to tell your homies "this is not for me".

Illness can also be either...you're born with a horrible defect inherited from your gene pool or your gene pool is partially brain dead themselves and leaves a third story window open and you dropped onto your knoggin tweaking your brain.

We don't choose our gene pool. It is believed this is a private area and is not open to legislation for a "remedy". Education is the remedy for all three. Your root cause theory has holes in it. imho

I do not consdier this to be a question, but rather an attempt to create controversy, Hitler loved contorvesy,,and his view of genetics. Poverty is situational,,so,,change the situation,,,I did,,, three jobs, and two schools, and i was 15. Some illnesses are genetic, so be it. Crime is a choice, simple as that,,,don't blame it on genes,, blame it on the real casue,,no morals,,no work ethnic
