I went to South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama recently and left with an extreme dislike for the people there. I am from Virginia and a friend who travelled with me is from North Carolina. To the people we encountered, we were "Yankees" and they treated us very badly. I was shocked by this due to the fact that Richmond, Virginia was the capitol of the Confederacy and my ancestors in both Virginia and North Carolina fought for the south. Not to mention we "y'all," "sir" and "ma'am" just like the rest of the South. I was deeply offended because I have always considered myself 100% Southern, and deeply hurt by these people's extremely rude behavior. I just don't understand why they acted the way they did. Maybe it is true that people in the Deep South are just ignorant?

It takes generations to overcome poor means of education and the dynamics of a war lost generations ago. The movies and stories of the south's ways are projected in truths. You never got over losing the war and still carry an attitude because you carry with you the history. Above the Mason Dixon line we consider the civil war history, something we learned in school. Everyday, I witness ignorance. Clerks here stand and talk and people walk two, three and more with their"buggy" blocking the aisles everyway possible. The most professional people still show lack of professionalism. The religion is overkill. You ask in a few minutes for one to go to your church, yet you show constant hypocrisies such as having liquor in a hidden closet, or putting it in your "buggy" and walking off like it isn't yours if someone you know is coming down the grocery aisle. I would trade the warm, winters anytime for snow to get back to normal people.

"the blood Ronald Reagan shed?" "the place the whites are only as stupid because of the fact the blacks?" (How racist, and you're all so busy sympathizing with the troll you could no longer call the guy on their racism?) And interracial marriage has been criminal interior the South because of the fact the splendid court ruling on Loving, thank you.

You should never generalize, especially putting all people from the Deep South in any category. I AM from the Deep South and I am certainly not ignorant nor rude. Granted they have ignorant people all over, both North and South. But the majority of Southerners are well educated and certainly have very good manners. I am offended by your statement and by everyone else who agrees with you.
