As already mentioned you can connect it to an IDE port with a converter. This however, will not give you SATA performance. It will only transfer data as quickly as your IDE controller permits.

In order to benefit from the higher transfer rates you will have to purchase & install a PCI SATA controller (preferably SATA II)

Not internally, because the plugs are different. You can install it in a USB case and use it as an external drive. Other than that you will have to switch out motherboards, which means you also need to purchase a processor (unless your current one is compatible with the new motherboard).

ideally you should be able to use serial on parallel
