You may usually bring personal reading material as long as its not a newspaper or current events magazine. What is your textbook. If its Criminal Justice, probably not, but history or computer science would be okay.

The rules probably differ from state to state, but I see no reason why you can't bring any book or even a newspaper. We're allowed newspapers in my state.
There should be a phone number on your summons that you can call. If not, contact someone to see what you can bring. It's always a very long and boring day.

Each state and each court house have different rules. Some of the basics though are no weapons such as knives or guns. The courts here in NM don't let you take your cell phone in if it is a picture phone.
Other than those you should call the court house and they would be happy to tell you!

If your court house is like mine, bring a cushion to sit on. Reading material should be acceptable.
