We went to D.C. as counter protesters with the Gathering of Eagles. The last time we were there they were only talking of erecting the WW2 tribute. It is amazing, my new favorite.

The protest against the anti-war, anti-Bush, and anti-American protesters was an over whelming victory. We out numbered them 3 to 1. They were comprised of 50% kids. It was a pathetic showing but a true acounting of who these people really are. They are not speaking for the majority of Americans.

I was there, I watched them start their little march, all 6,000 of them. It was easy to see that we out numbered them. We were the majority. They brought their babies and it was really cold. What good parents?

My wife and I had the chance to visit the WWII Memorial last summer. And I agree, it is a striking tribute to all those who gave their lives in the defeat of tyranny and the defense of freedom.

As to the "mini" protest, thanks for the first hand account. It doesn't surprise me that 50% were kids. In your late teens and early twenties, participating in a protest is kind of a rite of passage.

My personal opinion of it is that it is rather large and disruptive to the smooth line of the National Mall. While there are some very nice elements to it, as a whole it is a very busy and confused structure and thus lacks the evocative power of many of DC's other famous monuments. Too complex to invite contemplation. Although, I imagine that on hot summer days, those fountains in the middle of the Mall will make for a nice cool oasis to gather in.

I do have some nice pictures of it that I took on a trip there. Some of the fountains arching in criss-crossing patterns lit up against the dark night are really cool.

Yes, I saw it for the first time a few weeks ago. Very nice example of how a memorial should be --- as opposed to the travesty that was built here in Phoenix to "honor" the victims of 9/11.

No have not. Would rather go to the Smithsonian than dwell in the past. Hope they throw Jerry of YA for his answer.

All lies. You switched the numbers. There were over 30,000 protesters and only 10,000 counter (i.e. pro-Bush) protesters.

The war in Iraq is wrong. Bush is a criminal.
