Hi Ventline....My question is "What happened to the Buddy system"? When I was a GirlScout leader and we went on camping trips such as this, we would use the "Buddy System". Which worked! We didn't lose one scout on the trip. Also.. why weren't these leaders keeping an eye on this child with an ADHD disorder? I have a son that has ADHD and we had to watch him constantly due to his hypertension and because his attention span was nil to none. Always figity and wandering. Now I'm assuming that the reasoning on why the NG hasn't been called in is due to the expense that it involves with our Government. I would think that if the NG had better technology in finding this child that they wouldn't give it a second thought about the expense and go find this kid.! But needless to say that's our Government for you. Maybe the State officials don't want to involve the NG, who knows. However, someone needs to get their priorities straight and do something before it get's too late and the child dies of lack of nourishment or the elements of the weather.

The real question is...why haven't these stupid scout leaders learned to provide a simple whistle to all hikers, so they can easily be located, and fast?

How many more will die before parents and leaders get a clue? A whistle costs less than a dollar! (But noooo...America would rather blow thousandsof dollars and man-hours...and enjoy the drama!)

If a child is taught to blow it in 4 directions every 3 minutes, if ever lost...no boy or girl would be unfound ever again.

My understanding is that the National Guard has to be called into situations. They cannot just volunteer. They are also not a standing unit. It is part time for the members

Maybe because they're a little busy in Iraq?
