A D & C is basically just a scraping of the uterine lining. The uterus is not removed during this procedure so no- a woman would not lose her uterus with a D & C. There are times though not common, when the instrument that is used pokes a hole through the uterus, but this is not common and does not warrant a hysterectomy.

No, that's not what a D and C is. The operation meant to remove the uterus is an hysterectomy. It can be removed through the front wall of the lower abdomen or through the vagina. A D and C is meant to remove remnants of an unsuccessful early pregnancy or fragments of the lining of the uterus which normally sloughs off and is expelled once a month during her "period". Occasionally bits of that lining are left behind and result in unnatural bleeding and other ill effects and they must be removed by first dilating the cervix - the "D" and then curetting the inside of the uterus - the "C". A curette is simply an instrument meant to scrape the inside of the uterus. You can probably easily guess why this procedure is done under anesthesia - it would be quite uncomfortable otherwise.

What you call dnc is actually dilatation (of the cervix) and curettage of the uterus after an abortion or other serious trouble. The curette (which looks like a spoon with a hole in the middle with very sharp edges) scrapes the endometrium (uterus lining) clean of leftovers which might cause infection. However, if the operator is not very experienced he or she may scrape through the lining and the patient would need another intervention. To avoid this, interns are given blunt curettes to practice. But the uterus itself would never be lost or removed. This is a totally different operation called an hysterectomy, for totally different reasons.

Dilation and curettage (D&C) is a surgical procedure used to locate and treat the cause of sudden, heavy bleeding. It is done by passing a small instrument called a curette through the vagina into the uterus and scraping the lining of the uterus (endometrium).
D&C is usually done as an outpatient procedure. A general anesthetic is usually used, although a local or spinal anesthetic may be used.
Dilation and curettage provides complete clearance of the uterus, which stops
uterine bleeding.
The uterus is not removed just scraped
