At the 19-week ultrasound, they noticed my placenta was very low and ALMOST over the cervix, meaning I am at high risk for placenta previa. Currently I'm at 25 weeks, and am scheduled to go in at 30 weeks for another ultrasound to verify the position. I've noticed this kid is tougher on me than the others, but nothing terrible, and I am still working full-time, no bed rest. In my case, even if it is covering the cervix, that just means a more complicated delivery, it won't cause problems while just carrying the baby.

Without getting an ultrasound, there is no way to know where baby and placenta are. It sounds like the nurse was just suggesting possibilities, and ended up scaring you! A little mucus is completely normal. Call your doctor and schedule an appointment to get a better look inside, and go from there.

Most women have more mucous and discharge when they are pregnant. Your body ups the production of it due to elevated hormone levels. Placenta Previa is a condition where your placenta is laying over the opening of your cervix. Usually, it is not a big issue until you are ready to deliver your baby, because then the placenta is in the way of the baby coming through your birth canal. If you have that condition, it ususally clears up on it's own long before you deliver. But, a doc may want to confirm the condition and track it throughout your pregnancy, because if the placenta does not move before labor begins, they'll opt to do a c-section. At 17 1/2 weeks along, i would'nt worry too much. I think it's just harmless mucous discharge. Good luck!

I don't have it now, but I had it when pregnant with my oldest son. Placenta previa is when the placenta is low in the uterus and can cover all or part of the cervical opening. I had period-like bleeding with no pain. In my case, it was only part of the opening and moved up as my uterus grew with the pregnancy. If it covers all or part of the opening when labor comes, then you will need a C-section. The baby can't be born vaginally if the placenta presents itself before the baby. You should go to your Dr and have them perform an ultrasound. That's the only way they can tell where the placenta is located. An increase in vaginal discharge and mucus is normal during pregnancy unless it's accompanied by an unusual odor or burning and itching. Some women become more prone to vaginal yeast infections during pregnancy. Good luck hon.

I just had my son 6 months ago, but when I was about 3 or 4 months my dr called me and said I had a complete placenta previa, meaning the placenta was completely covering my cervix. It was something they saw on the last ultrasound I had had. I had to take it very easy. I wasn't allowed to lift anything over 20 lbs. Including my daughter. And if I had any bleeding at all I was to go to the ER right away. It isn't something to mess with. I don't mean to scare you, but you need to talk to your dr and have them check to make sure. If you have one and it doesn't correct itself you will have to have a c-section because you can hemorrage if you start to bleed. In most cases though it will correct itself before it becomes a to much of a problem. Mine ended up okay opn the next ultrasound a few weeks later and my son was born normally and was a healthy 9lbs. 2oz.

It could be a "low lying placenta" or "placenta previa" .. I had this!
I started bleeding bright red blood at 15 weeks .. went to the ER (hystrical, because I thought I was losing my baby) .. they did an ultrasound, baby was perfect and the bleeding was because I have a "low lying placenta". I then (for 4 weeks) continued spotting brown. It does not affect the baby whatsoever. The doctor said 96% of people who have a "low-lying" placenta in early pregnancy will clear itself up and will be perfect by full term and will have a normal vaginal delivery. Worse case scenerio is that if the placenta doesn't move up (from your uterus expanding as your tummy grows) .. then in that 4% you will have to have a c-section. But you will still have a healthy baby :)
I then went in for my 18 week ultrasound .. and no more low-lying placenta!! it was completely normal!! no spotting .. nothing! it was as if I never had it :)
I've known SEVERAL women who had this (some spotted, some didn't) and EVERY one of them cleared up by term and deliverd their babies vaginally! It's so very common in early pregnancy. Don't stress about it. I stressed myself retarded when it happend to me. I'm now 24 weeks pregnant with a very healthy baby boy!
Hang in there .. and relax :)

good luck! God bless!

I have what they call "partial placenta previa" which means that part of the placenta is over the cervix. I had absolutly no symptoms at all, some women do, some dont. I didnt! I went for my 20 week ultrasound and thats what they found. My Ob called me and simply told me to not lift heavy objects and to hold off on having sex. I have an ultrasound next tuesday to see if the placenta has moved. 90% of them found before 20 weeks move up with the growing belly. The risks of this (if it doesnt fix itself) really include nothing much besides a c-section. Its really not as serious as they make it seem. I was so scared when the dr started explaining all of this, but i did my research and its really not that uncommon. This happens everyday to alot of women!!! Dont stress yourself out!

Hi! I had placenta praevia with my 1st pregnancy. I had a big bleed at 27 weeks and went into premature labor. Luckily they managed to stop it and I was then put on complete bedrest until I was given an elective caesarian at 36 weeks. Up until the bleed I had no symptoms at all! The only reason I knew I had it was my obstitrition casually mentioning it at my 18 week scan. He brushed it off as no big deal, which looking back I am quite angry about, given my lack of knowlege about its severity nearly endangered my babies life. Go back to your doctor, find out everything you can about your personal situation (there are different grades, 1 - 5, 5 being worst. ) Find out how bad it is and what you should avoid. Most correct themselves as baby grows, but a small number require caesarians (like mine.) Hate to say it, but avoid sex. It can cause bleeds as the placenta is so low, rest whenever possible and relax! I know its hard, but try. Email me if you want to! The very best of luck to you and your precious little one.

I had it with my third son.I was put on bed rest.
I delivered my son at 7 months along. My only symptoms were spotting and cramping. If you follow any recommendations your physician gives you ,you should deliver without complication.
The only reason I delivered so early is because I thought I could continue to work and that caused me to hemorrhage. To avoid the same thing that happened to me, avoid any heavy lifting. You may have a higher possibility of having a c-section as I did,for some women they are still able to deliver naturally.
I'm sure everything will be just fine.
