My early labor contractions felt like menstrual cramps... but if they're more than 5 minutes apart, it's still too early. Most women deliver between 38 and 40 weeks, so you're fine. I was induced the day of my 38th week because given our family history, the baby would've been huge had I waited until the 40th week. And I'm glad I did, because he was 9 pounds at 38 weeks. God knows how big he would've been had I waited any longer! Try walking around. If it's false labor, movement should help relieve the pain. If it's real, they'll only get worse with walking. Congratulations, and God bless you and your little one to come!

Some people can handle contractions better than others. You may not think it is contractions.. and it really could be. Make sure you try timing them and menstrual cramping is a normal feeling. Has the baby dropped yet? This could be what you are feeling as well.. which is like a deep pressure on your uterus, bladder, and pelvic area. It will not hurt anyone if you go in to get checked at L&D.. that is what they are there for and they'll get over it if you are having a false alarm. Since you are 38 wks along I would not wait around.. baby can come pretty quick if you ignore it and it has been contractions all that time. Good luck and Congrats!

What you are experiencing is probably Braxton Hicks contractions. Your body is getting ready to deliver.
By the time you're within a couple of weeks of your due date, these contractions may get more intense and more frequent, and cause some discomfort. Unlike the earlier painless and sporadic Braxton Hicks contractions that caused no obvious cervical change, these may help your cervix "ripen": gradually soften and efface, and maybe even begin to dilate a bit. This period is sometimes referred to as "pre-labor."

They could be braxton hicks contractions. I'm not sure if that's the right spelling.
