Not trying to sound cold hearted here but just what is Iraq in the sense of sacrifice to America, really, and, truly, compared to other wars, the U.S. has engaged in. There were more people killed at Gettysberg in a single afternoon than in 4 years in Iraq.

In Iraq, after four years, 3100+ Americans killed; In our great Civil War, after 4 years 400,000 american soldiers killed; WWI, after 1.5 years 100,000+ american soldiers dead; WWII, after 4 years, 400,000+ american soldiers dead; Korean war, after 3 years, 54,000+ dead, Vietnam War, after 13 +years, 54,000 dead.

In the U.S., each year, 40,000 plus americans are killed by violence, and, 40,000+ are killed in automobile accidents.

As a people can we move on to new ideas and policy accomplishments?

The Americans, the Europeans, and even the Israelis really don't know what it is all about, do they? During the last generation hundreds of thousands of children have been taught all over the Muslim world in madrass schools to become martyrs for Allah in order to kill the infidels.

These youngsters not only are ready to do it, but are actually in the process of doing it. Bombs are going off all over the world killing and maiming thousands of people, not only on 9/11 in the US, in London, Madrid and Bali, but in Africa, India, Bangladesh, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and many other places. The first signs of the Islamic tsunami are already here, but the West doesn't understand, or doesn't want to understand what is coming.

The Americans, instead of realizing that this is as bad as World War Two, or even worse, are going to pull out of Iraq, handing it over to Iran on a silver platter. Next may come the Saudis and the rest of the Gulf states.

When dirty bombs go off all over Western towns, who is going to stop the Iranians?

You are absolutely correct. The leftist Democrats know we must win in Iraq. Though if they do not oppose Bush they will appear to be saying he is on the right track. Therefore securing another republican victory.
Their only avenue to gain more power is to oppose anything and everything the Bush administration stands for. Throwing mud is always what they get elected on and then they rarely ever follow through with real change. For 30 years they have been EXTREMELY weak on foreign policy as opposed to the great change and opportunity the republicans have brought about in the world over the same period of time.
The Democratic left is owned by Moveon.org, an extreme far left wing organization and once this is mainstreamed the average democrat will cross party lines and vote republican.
This is why the republican party is propping up Moderate candidates whom hold some of the the values the once great democratic party had.

I think I get what you're saying, but we really shouldn't trivialize the death of soldiers.

It may seem like nothing to you, but if you lost a single brother, sister, father, mother, aunt, uncle, or cousin, you'd have a much different perspective about 3200+ deaths.

The pain a family feels when a member of their clan is killed is beyond words. Especially when it could have been prevented.

The Civil War, WW1, and WW2 had enormous implications on our country and on the rest of the world.

Vietnam, by and large, was a failed war with "54,000+" soldiers dying for essentially nothing.

Iraq, by and large, is a failed war; at least to this date and time. 3200+ boys and girls dying for what exactly?

If one of your immediate family members had been killed in Iraq, you'd have a much different outlook on things.

Automobile fatalities and acts of violence are things we cannot control. But war, however, is something we as a country have CHOSEN to do.

It's so easy to sit in front of your keyboard in your house heated to 72 degrees and talk about how 3100 dead is no big deal.

That is pretty cold hearted. I seem to remember that 9/11 had a death toll of about 3000 people and we've ruined our national standing, broken our budget, thrown away the constitution, and in the process bred throngs of radicals who want to kill us over that incident.

This is a trite and insensitive argument.

I've often wondered the same thing when numbers like these are reported.

It seems to me that it is the same as reporting that a blizzard killed 2 people, when in fact over the same period of time in the same area statistically tens of people would have died had there not been a blizzard (from car accidents, murders, etc.).

It's still a war, even if the cost in lives has been relatively low.
