I want to go on a form of non hormonal birth control, because hormones really mess with me and the pill has really screwed me up. i am a bit strapped for cash and my insurace like doesn't beleive in family planning ( hence my $100 bill for an STD test i did not need and could have gotten for free that my insurance refuses to cover) so any tips? i have tried condoms alone and my son will tell you how great that method works. :D

Well an IUD would probably be your best option, a copper one plus insertion will cost a pretty penny but it last for up to 10 years so its a good deal! You could also combine condoms with another form such as spermicide or a diapragm, neither or which is all that effective on its own but would give a bit of reassurance in combination. There are also hormonal forms with very low doses of hormones in them. the mini-pill and nuvaring both have very low doses but are still very effective. good luck! talk with your doc or visit www.plannedparenthood.org for more info

Don`t give up on your birth control pills. I had the same problem and there is some with very low estrogen that worked well for me. In fact what my doctor did is alternate my pills. One month I would take 777`s and the next I would use 135`s. Ask about the depo shot too. It seems to work well for several people I know and you should be able to get through a health dept which will be more cost effective for you. As you know, I wouldn`t recommend anything over the counter.

Hi, the only safe birth control is abstenance. If you are married than that is out of the question LOL. I would have your mate use a condom, and you get vaginal film. You can get this at the pharmacy area of any drug store. With a condoma and the film you should be pretty safe, unless God has other plans for you! There are also certain times of the month when one is more fertil then others, you might want to avoid having sex on those days. Better said than done, I know.

The best birth control method is to find some other pass time than sex. A doc can give you the plus and minus of uterine devices--you can't tell they are in there but they also cause problems. If you don't want more children--go and get your tubes tied, simple procedure and permanent control of children from you.

The only other things I know about are the IUD, which is a "T" shaped device with copper in it that is inserted into you uterus and for permanent birth control, a tubal ligation. The IUD is able to be used for ten years and at the clinic where I work is about $400.00. Sorry I can't be of more assistance....good luck!!
