I am working for a big company in health care. Now one of the doctors that I work with is opening his own practise. I am going to work for him starting in two weeks but he never talkes about how much money I will make. I am making 13.47 right now but I would love to make 15,00 to 16,00 an hour. How do I ask for it (friendly) to make sure I get it.?

I'd say something like that: "...and if you think of giving me more than 16.00 an hour, forget it, I won't accept that, because 16.00 is just enough for me, right now."

I would just come out and ask when you too are not near any other co-workers... You need to keep your options open so you don't loose both jobs... In this day and age as well as being professionally polite is out the window when it comes to wages/salary. good luck

Polite, try assertive. Its your salary. Tell him you would like to have a chat about your salary and benefits. Also justify why you believe you need the increase. If he says no, or even offers less, do you have a negotiation or even backup plan.

I would word it like "with my new position starting in a few weeks, would thiis be a laterial move for me?" If he/she says yes then you will know that a pay raise may not be there for you when you move to his practice. Best of luck in your new job!
