You are too far ahead or behind. Use the map on the pause screen or the minimap at the bottom.
They are going to your neighborhood. You can mark where you are going on the pause screen, that helps a lot. Mark the letters CJ and don't feel bad, the same thing happened to me.

To his house, follow the blue blip on the radar. Tip, if you keep close to to the left of buildings and objects, the chasing car will keep crashing into them.

Your going back to Grove Street. You eventually follow Ryder. You can speed up and get there wat before anyone else does, but then the Ballas can come into your hood, but if Ryder's close by, then the Ballas will stay out of the Grove.

u can speed up to him,then keep watching him ll the way,plus make shure u stay away from the shooting cars.
