Yes with a teaching certificate. Just to let you know, we have many people who want to teach high school English/lit classes. The US needs science, math and special education teachers.

At a private school, yes. In the public schools, you will need to check was the requirements are. Most school districts require a teaching certification. Some, though, will hire you under a temporary basis (1-2 years) while you complete coursework in education that meets the certification requirements. Also, you must pass the Praxis I and II exams. Praxis I is waived for those who did well on the SAT (1100 or above.) Praxis II is a test about your subject area--which all must score well on. Books regarding Praxis II prep are available at bookstores. Check the local state's requirement in which you are applying.
