There's a story on Yahoo right now about Congress probing the illegal spying performed by the Justice Department to see whether innocent Americans' private financial information was obtained under the guise of the war on terror. Do we really trust governmental officials enough that we would simply hand them all our financial information without question? If an FBI agent showed up at your door and said he needed all your credit cards and current bank statements, would you give them to him without a warrant?

I am credit card debt free by choice. And it is impossible to get a loan without turning over your financial information. It is, however, possible for our government to protect us from terrorists without that information.

Randy: Noooo... CONGRESS is executing an investigation. The President isn't empowered to do so. The DEMOCRATS are doing it.

I'm real "big" on the Bill of Rights (crazy, isn't it?), and have ZERO trust of government (apparently, the gov feels the same way about us citizens).

I would turn over NOTHING without the proper warrants.
I would allow NO search of my property, without proper warrants.

As an American, I STRONGLY support the limitations placed on our government, by our Constitution. America was born in the ink of the Constitution. To deviate from the Constitution, would be to deviate from AMERICA.

Yes, the current crop of "Republicans" has far too much trust in government . . . and far too little trust in their fellow Americans.

Of course, I'm a Liberal Commie, America-bashing, son-of-a-***** for saying that, but that's okay with me.

Ron Paul for President!!

I think republicans have no faith in anybody except themselves and of course business. About the War on Terror and the 2001 US Patriot Act and governmental snooping in our private financial and medical information, we, as scared citizens gave them (the US Justice Department) all the power to do just that. As for whether I would surrender my financial information to an FBI agent, NO, I wouldn't give them ANYTHING. I would probably get arrested and might spend time in jail, but I strongly believe in the US Constitution. I think it is time that the citizens "take back" America from all the lying politicians. In fact, we need to do it TODAY - America can't wait and neither can we!

Yes, faith in government...

It seems to me that one either believes people are inherently "good", or inherently "evil".

If you believe that people are inherently "good", then we really don't need a large government.

If you believe that people are inherently "evil", then having a large government is a very dangerous thing.

Either way, smaller government is the only logical choice, and neither the republicans nor the democrats are interested in giving us a smaller government.

If History is any guide, total control of government being changed over to the democrats in '08 wouldn't mean they are going to eliminate the programs you seem concerned about. The typical democrat response would be to create a new agency to oversee these things "for our own protection". Once the cycle rolls around to the republicans again, they also would not eliminate that new agency, they'd just appoint their own people to run it.

Only Libertarians really want to get the government out of your life.

i'm a instructor and that i do sense sturdy approximately my activity. yet your rant does not make plenty sense. As a instructor, my activity is to no longer produce, yet to offer an practise. lots of the government officers in cost of "college courses", inspite of the undeniable fact that, do no longer supply practise, yet policies and mandates. Public practise could be greater effective and effective if faculties that some distance much less interference from bureaucrats who do no longer even have any journey interior the college room. the government can no longer produce, it may merely supply particular centers. And issuing facilitates won't be quite some a provider. BTW. highway and highway shape is shriveled to shape companies. NASA buys from aerospace companies, which comprise Lockheed Martin, which many liberals label as "evil".

They can obtain that financial information some way, if they wanted to. Even without our knowledge. They could also simply run our social security number and get a whole slew of information. But, if they asked me directly, I would demand what would they need it for and to show me a warrant, yes.

All the information the government is asking for is available from private internet information providers.
Imo the government is simply trying to cut out the middle man, get the information free, and save the taxpayer money.

This is why Bush is executing an immediate investigation and is going to hand down swift justice to those whom abused the power they were entrusted with.

Any info obtained from wire tapping under the guise of the war on terror is inadmissible in a court of law unless you are a terrorist. Even the most lame lawyer could have murder charges thrown out if this was the only evidence that the prosecution had. I have nothing to hide. Drug dealers, murderers, and rapist need not fear the Patriot act. It does not apply to them nor would it condemn them in any shape, way, or form in a court of law.

Yet you think nothing of handing over all your financial information when you apply for a credit card or a loan.
