Over time the flag has acquired a wide range of meanings, some apparently contradicting one another. Since the CSA was fighting for independence during the Civil War, much as the United States did during the Revolutionary War, the Confederate Flag has always had connotations of rebellion, patriotism, self-determination, dissent, freedom, and liberty. Since the issues of slavery and, later, segregation, are deeply intertwined with the CSA and the Civil Rights Movement, the Confederate Flag can also be considered to have connotations of racism and slavery. Its use is currently a contentious issue across the United States.

It was most likely the issue of the Confederate Flag that brought on the cancellation. I feel political correctness can go too far as in this very issue given. You have to educate yourself and make a decision to which you agree with certain things or not. The Dukes of Hazzard didn't have racists views as far as I remember, no more than any show of the era.

Look at the Andy Griffith Show, one of the most refered to good time televison shows in history. Can anyone name the cast of African Americans who played on that show? In the end it is just television and a reflection of the era it was filmed.
It doesn't mean the show should be cancelled. It just means we have to learn more about the way the world was instead of trying to erase every little stain that exists.

The Confederate Flag can stand for racism or heritage whatever you wish to believe but as far as The Dukes of Hazzard, it was just a sticker on the car.

I think it's stupid. If some portions of American society don't have anything else to worry about other than whether or not a Confederate flag is painted on the roof of a race car named the "General Lee" and driven by two good ol' boys from Georgia, then they lead a shallow, useless life.

There are MUCH more important things this portion of American society should be worried about.

The Confederate flag is a part of both AMERICAN and SOUTHERN history, and it's gonna be around for as long as there's a South. People better wake up and realize that.

I have no opinion about the issues surrounding the cancellation, but I do not fly the confederate flag, even though many of my friends do. The flag doesn't bother me.
