I got my tongue pierced 3 months ago and wanted to get replacement balls online. I have a shorter stud than what was used when pierced but still the same gauge. My question is this... What gauge do you pierce with and what size are the metal balls that are first used?

well im not sure about the size of the balls, but all piercings are started with a 14 gauge post. the smaller the gauge, the thicker the post will be, and the higher the number the thinner the post will be. but u have to be careful if u get anything higher than a 14 gauge (ex: 16g or 18g) because there is a risk of it tearing your piercing because if the fact that it is so thin. but good luck with your piercing. ive had my tounge pierced for 3 years now!!

I don't know in gauge, cuz we usually speak in millimeters... the usual size is 1.6 mm. that's the beginning size usually used... u can also choose the 1.2 size. and about the balls.. well, there's no standard... it's like, whatever size u feel most comfortable with. u get to pick the piercing, not the person who pierces ur tong.. hope i helped.. and good luck with it.. some infections can be really nasty.. talking from experience here ;))... oh yeah.. like, the balls first used are something like 5 mm in diameter...normally...
