The answer is relative to many things, namely the chipset and slot type of the cards. I just benchmarked an ATI Radeon 9600 AGPx8 128mb vs a Nvidia FX5200 AGPx8 256mb card. The Radeon runs nearly 5 times as well with half the ram. There are a few good benchmarking programs that will help answer that question for you as well as many sites that review cards side by side.
