Are there any signs? Odor? What causes it? Are there home remedies?

I have a discharge but I am not sure if it is normal or not. My body has gotten out of wack since I had my son. Its not a cottage cheese discharge. It looks like I have had an organism with a slight smell....but not fishy or anything? Is this normal?

Yeast infections are caused by the fungus candida albicans so no there are not several types of yeast infections unless you count the fungus infecting other areas such as the mouth which is called thrush and is common in infants......It is a normal fungus and is present in most people a problem arises when something allows the yeast to over grow and take over causing the irritation associated wtih a yeast infection. The signs and symptoms include Itching, burning, swelling, redness and an abnormal discharge. The discharge is usually a whitish color and can range from very thin to very thick and clumpy like cottage cheese. You may also notice a smell like baking bread. Have you been on an antibiotic lately? That is the major cause of yeast over growth in women, but it can be caused by many other things as well. The best thing to do is to go to a doctor If you have never had one you need to have your initial infection diagnosed professionally so that in the future if you get another one you can try to treat it OTC. It will require a basic vaginal swabbing and they look at the discharge under the microscope and can tell you immediatly if that is the problem! Good news there is now a one dose pill you can take called Diflucan which is an extremly easy way to solve the problem. I hope this helps.
