It doesn't matter what you play. Pearl is definitely the elite brand of drums to buy. Their best beginner kit would probably be the Pearl Exports. I have a set of black pearl exports and I love them, they sound great. The best cymbals to buy are either Zildjian or Sabian.

go with pearl.
i play in a punk/alt/rock band and those drums sound excellent. espescially the 7 piece masters series.
add in some sabian cymbals and a few chinas, and you'll be good to go like a pro!
