I am looking for a couple of good horses, preferably mares, to use on trail rides near zip code 75656. I would like to get them fairly cheaply. Does anyone know anyone trying to sell their horses?

If you are an experienced horse person, I would check out local humane societies and horse rescues. Just be careful, make sure you know what you are getting into. As with any horse, have the vet check it over before agreeing to anything.

Another place to check is local tack stores, feed stores and stables. They often have listings on a wall, and the employees may know of someone selling a horse.

Good luck! Remember, mares can be moody! I have 2 of them, and I wish they were geldings sometimes!

I tried to find the mailing I received last week but could not. Check for rescues. Auction are overrunning with horses right now. This was what the mailing was about. We have stopped the slaughter of horses for human consumption now and it is now resulting in horses that no one has the ability to care for and people are turning them loose in the country. There is no way to dispose of animals no one wants. Most are not old and in poor health, just in need of people to care for them. It is driving the prices of horses so low that the ranchers out west can't afford to take care of them for what they can get for them. I'm sure with the situation being what it is you can find one for sure. The mailing I received on the matter was very sad for sure. Check out the ASPCA. They are doing what they can to help with it. Everyone who is against horse slaughter( myself included) was not prepared for what stopping it was going to mean for all the unwanted animals that exist. Also now that premarin use is going down so fast the urine farms are inundated with all the horses that they now have no use for. One great place for adopting PMU horses and foals is:animali farm-online or animali@aol.com or 805-938-0174. They even deliver up to a certain distance or will arrange to meet you part way.

Yes! You are in a perfect area to check out the government's wild mustang program. You will have a REAL hay-burner to ride, probably everything you want in a horse. Save a horse's life and gain another best friend.
