Well, first, without sex there would be no new generations. Secondly, we have a biological drive that seeks sexual satisfaction. Finally, sex can be something that brings two people closer together.

Sex is important in life as it is the manner that we use to reproduce. Maybe when we have entered a "Brave New World", it won't be the focus of social behavior as much as it is today.
However, sex is also important to life because it can be a powerfully emotional activity & so provides an avenue to control the behaviors of those involved. This is what made sexual activity such a focus of regulation by society & what leds peple to market or exploit it.
What you may want to focus on is not why sex is important in life but why it is important to you. Only you can determine the role that sex will play in your life so chose to do so to meet YOUR needs.

It's important because it is what we do as humans, reproducing is a natural instinct. But because humans are superior to animals, our version would be finding someone to be your spouse, family, company, etc. But unfortunately, sex has been abused and sold off for too long now through many things like the media, lowering its worth and at the same time making some people forget its real power and purpose.
