Sorry folks, I have no magnet and I am housebound. Is there any simple way I can make a magnet?

Wow, you've no magnets on you refrigerator?
The magnet may not help anyway, if the screw is stainless steel, which could be the case.
You'd probably be better off trying something sticky to grab it.
Or get a woman's panty hose, cover the end of the vacuum hose with it and see it if will suck out of there. You could also put a new bag in the vacuum and then cut it open.

Using a magnet, rub the penknife from the hilt to the tip, remove the magnet and then repeat rapidly around 20 times. The magnetism will not be that strong, or be permanent, but it will be strong enough and last long enough to pick up the screw. Do not rub the magnet back and forth as that will magnetize and demagnetize the penknife.

Items with magnets include the back or speakers, perhaps it would be easier to take the screw out of an old pair of glasses. An alternative is to put a small piece of wire, a staple for example through the screw hole to hold the glasses together to allow you to get to the opticians

Easy. Just rub both sides of the blade against a magnet. Preferably one stronger than the typical refrigerator magnet.

Find someone with a fairly powerful magnet. Sweep the magnet in one direction along the length of the knife several times and hey presto! the screwdriver will be magnetised.
I realise how much this means to you as I have some visually impaired friends.

Wrap a piece of insulated wire around the blade and then touch both ends to the post on a 9volt battery and tour blade should be magnetized.

well you will need a good strong magnet and then rub it up and down on the blade for a while and that should do it for you best of luck
