well good for you.
My cousin is a cop and I have a close friend who is in the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mountain police).
I believe that serving the community is a noble cause. I respect most cops (not all) but a vast majority of them.

I am going to start by saying, I HAVE NEVER BEEN ARRESTED, NOR HAVE I DONE ANYTHING TO GET ARRESTED (unless you count a couple of possible dui's if i would have got caught)
With that said, there are good cops, and there are bad cops. To say you don't like cops as a whole is no different than hating a certain race because of the actions of a few.
There are some cops who don't deserve any respect at all, and there are those who are really on the job to do good for ALL people of ALL races. The only cops to really worry about are the racist ones, because when it comes down to it, it's your word against theirs, and because they are "cops", their word usually wins. So many black people have lost their lives at the hands of corrupt racist cops, but not all cops.
Look at the case of Tyisha Miller. This 19 year old, black woman was shot 12 times (27 shots fired) because she was sitting in her car with a gun on her lap. (The gun was on her lap for her protections because she was sitting in the car sleep, by herself). You have to wonder if Tyisha was white, would it have happened that way. Hell no!

I am quite greatful to MOST officers. They risk their lives everyday to make the world (or our cities) a little safer for us. That is admirable.
Now, I don't hold the corrupt cops in the same esteem. I often feel betrayed that those who are supposed to"protect and serve" can shoot suspects IN THE BACK and call it self defence. On what planet? I am afraid when those bad apples get gun- or taser-happy for no apparent reason. I know their job is stressful and not all of us are perfect. We do make mistakes, but their mistakes take people's lives.
I guess I am thankful for them, but fearful of them at the same time.

I believe the police are supposed to protect and serve. However... in light of all the changes and accomplishments in the black community... I feel there are dirty cops who just want to bring harm to the black community. Most have that Jim Crow mentality and don't want to see us successful.
In light of all the brutal beatings... murders... and corruption I know about first hand... I have very little trust or respect for them. I will however respect the position of authority.

Hmm...I'm guessing with an opinion like that you must not be the most upstanding citizen. What a pity. I have plenty of respect for cops - even after too many speeding tickets, a few totalled cars and one dui (not connected to any of the above). They're only doing their jobs.
The more I think about this question, the more I think I hate you and have ZERO respect for a moron such as yourself. Just a month ago, a cop was shot and killed in my city. Just a few months ago, my boyfriend (a cop, a black one at that) just called to inform me that they were searching for a moron who must possess the same mindset as you who is out there shooting at cops. Get over yourself...you are worthless in my eyes.

i respect them, they saved my life. if there were no police can you just imagine what chaos would be going on where you live right now. you being a female you should respect the police. i'm not saying date them but you should respect them. if someone was beating and raping you, bystanders will not help you, but the police will. go to the website indiana prosecutor and check out the dead men walking on there. if they were ever set free . i thank God for the p-o-l-i-c-e.

cant stand them, they lie, cheat, and do anything they can to justify their actions. i have been screwed by the cops before, for something i didnt do. the idea "the ends justify the means" is pretty much the code they go by. i do not like cops at all, but they are a necessary evil, just the same. a cop who commits a crime is the worst kind of criminal there is.

You were probably voted most likely to go to prison in highschool, weren't you?
I have the highest respect for police officers and the military. They are human just like all the rest of us. They make mistakes just like you. People always expect cops to help em out when they need something and then get ticked off when cops arrest them for doing something illegal. It's a two way street buddy. Police are out there day in and day out underpaid, overworked, and doing the best they can.
You probably have a rap sheet that's 10 pages. Go spew your hatred elsewhere. I hope the next time you call 911 the police take their time responding.

I am sure that there are some good police around, but many do not do their jobs properly, and the ones who beat people up for no reason or kill someone, seem to never have to pay for their crimes at all. They should be punished like everyone else in my opinion.
