Jack,
The problem here is that she is a family friend and you are afraid of causing a difficult situation. It is already that it started the day you became attracted to her because when you see her you want to ask her out and do not have the verve. Well do it now before she gets someone else and then you will have a problem.
Unfortunately the HOW is not so easy but I suggest that the next time you are alone with her just say "to be honest I have fancied you for ages and was wondering how you feel". This may not be easy but at least you will have an answer and if she says that she is not interested then no problem "just sorry if I have embarrassed you but I needed to tell you". Then off to find someone without connections.

Yes you should ask her out. Just tell her that you've liked her for quite a while now and that if she doesn't feel the same then it won't change how you feel about her as a friend, which is most important. Tell her that you want to ask her out because if you never ask then you'd never know if she felt the same way.
Don't be disheartened if she says no, just make sure that you still care about her and want to be her friend. Most girls won't get annoyed, in fact most would be flattered, even if they do'nt feel the same.
But then again she may feel the same way. You should be able to have some kind of idea how you think she feels already. Trust your instincts. More often than not, they are right.

Tricky one mate.... she might feel the same... or you might frighten her to death ..? if you are gonna be eaten up by this forever you gotta say summat ...and take a chance...if you can live with it just keep what you have together now and who knows what may happen in the future between you .? Personally I am a strong believer that a friendship between a man n a woman is never totally plutonic...one will have feelings for the other at some point , or vice versa . whether the other one takes offence or not is another ball game pal... good luck..

You are creating worries & problems for yourself for nothing!! The 2 of us should have by now part of you as least spiritually speaking, having been friends for years. Just ask! What reason is she likely to feel awkward? Girls like being asked; but they have the right to say no. More likely it will be a Yes!

Tell her how you feel, and chances are that she will also feel the same. However if it turns out that she doesn't then don't push the matter else you will lose her as a friend too. Good luck x

fear of rejection is a troublesome emotion isn't it? The only way you'll know what will happen is if you confront your fears and do it anyway. She's only a human being. If she says yes great! if she says no that doesnt mean your not a great person who's not able to be loved. it just means she has different ideas about who she wants to be with.

For crying out loud pal, JUST DO IT.
life is short, if she says no then you'll hurt for a while, if you never ask, you'll hurt for a lifetime.
Unless you're incredibly rude, it's impossible to offend her - even if she's not interested in you "that way", she'll still be flattered.

you gotta ask your self is it worth taking the risk to have a chance to be with her and loose your friendship if you know it is then you have to go for it, there has bin alot of people in your position that havn't took the chance and left it the way it is but if you dont ask her your gonna regret it for the rest of your life that pain is worse trust me, so go ask her and be happy. good luck
