I am Canadian.

Canada banned the death penalty because of fears about wrongful convictions, concerns about the state taking the lives of individuals, and uncertainty about the death penalty's role as a deterrent for crime.

I don't believe that the death penalty should be brought back in Australia. Definitely not.

Mainly because the prisons are overflowing and its cheaper to hang a murderer than pay for locking him/her up for 20 or 30 years. We pull out noxious weeds from the garden, we don't fertilize them. Whats the difference?

The 'wrongly convicted' argument is a lot thinner than the bleeding heart brigade would have you believe. Every system makes its mistakes; much better a dead child molester than a dead child.

While we are at it, lets add to the deterrent effect and bring back corporal punishment as well.

The ancient Persians used to strap murderers' victims to their backs. Just imagine the weight, the smell, the social ineptitude - the deterrent effect.

Bit tough for the wrongly convicted though.

No. Violence begets violence. So if you use violence to counteract violence, you will end up with more violence. The death penalty hasn't deterred anyone in the U.S. from killing. We have thousands on death row. The money would be better spent in caring for the children before they grow up to be criminals.
