gonna nuke it huh? well, all answers above are correct so I wont repeat. but BEFORE you do ANYTHING, sift through your system drive (usually c:) and grab out anything you want to KEEP. so many people dont do this and dont know what happened to their data. browse through your My Documents and Program Files for any data you may want not to loose. Pictures, music, saved games, REGISTRATION AND ACTIVATION KEYS!!!

then either move the data to a seperate partition (like D:) or burn out to a CD or DVD.. then let your Operating System CD do the formatting for you.

Yes there are hundreds of proceedures for formatting your system drive but if you are unfamiliar with the process, then let your OS disk do it for you..

first find the a bootable operating system CD. now close all programmes and shut down you machine. the restart the computer and enter to bios setup.
you can do it by pressing tab or f8 or del or some other key.
after enter the bios setup select the option startup sequence or simmiler to that. then set it as start up from CD then save the all changes and exit from bios setup then you computer will start from the cd. follow the instruction and format your computer and install new operating system. this is for windows XP. and after install the operating system again you have to set your startup sequense to hard disk.

You can do it from the BIOS .. there's a option for low-level formatting your hard disk...
Go to BIOS by hitting 'DEL' or maybe some other key depending on your bios.
Once you do a low level format, your hard disk will be absolutely wiped clean of any data ... enjoy
