That is what some strange man came up to me and said in the grocery store! I was shopping around with my baby... and he just approached me and blurted that out... and then mumbled some crap about being a Christian and abortion is murder and god loves me (I really did tune most of it out though, as I was in a state of shock) - Is this normal? Has this happened to anyone else? Why would a strange man just think that abortion was something I was considering at any point of my pregnancy!?

I had something similar happen to me. When a woman I work with found out I was pregnant...instead of saying congratulations, she said "at least you are keeping it so you won't be damned to hell". My take on it is...some people are seriously demented religious freaks and feel the need to blurt out their beliefs no matter what the situation. I'm glad that you just brushed this guy off because arguing with him or even questioning him would have gotten you nowhere. His comment had nothing to do with you, the "voices in his head" were probably coercing him to tell you how he felt.

Younger moms seem to get that a lot. I had my son when i was 21. I have joint problems so my fingers were swollen and I couldn't wear my wedding ring. I walk into the church with my son who was about 2 months at the time. All the ladies kept coming up to me and one prayed for me out loud and said that I don't need to chase after men that God would send me a good man. She had no idea what she was talking about. I was happily married and still is. Just because I was young and didn't walk in with a man, they asumed I was single.

How ironic, I was in this same situation when my daughter was a baby. She is now 3, but glad to know I am not the only one hearing it. I heard it at a graduation party for my cousin. It was a family friend of someone I don't know. I asked him what his intent was and his reply was " oh I just think that there are so many women who think of abortion as a birth control method." My responce to that was "hey I hear ya, but you really need to keep your bible preaching mouth out of my business." I would ignore it and move on. He is some super freak with nothing else to do.

Are you a young mother? It's possible he just though you were young and maybe he thinks brining a child into the world is a tough decision for young parents.

I've never been thanked for not aborting my child, but I have been thanked by gas station personnell for not leaving him in the car when I go to pay......

Because the abortion issue is becomeing so big, I don't think that he was speeking only to you. I believe that he just knows how much of a miracle your baby is, and was thanking you (and others with children) for allowing the baby to come into this world. I have had that happen to me before. I just say "I wouldn't have considered it for anything!" Of course both of my children are adopted, so I also say an unspoken thank you to their birthmothers (whom we have no contact with) for not aborting their babies. If they did we wouldn't have our children!

Oh I get a lot of weird comments from evangelical christian nutters, I think because I'm young. I have had comments about how god loves me for keeping my baby, and how jesus will support me even though there is no man in my life(I am married!). I guess they assume I'm a single parent.

Just smile and nod and back away slowly, don't get caught up in discussion with them you will never get away!

I think that you are overthinking what happened. The guy probably would have walked up to anyone and said that. You just have to laugh at the situation and forget that it ever happened.

Congrats on the new baby!

Just chalk it up to the ramblings of a delusional old man...or young man. No, that isn't normal and I'm sorry you had to listen to that! How disturbing. If it makes you feel any better, he probably says the same thing to other women, men, dogs, cats, brick walls....hee,hee!
