I don't mean that they touch it up or add a bit of lippy, I mean they get on at one stop with no make-up, spend the entire journey putting on their slap - foundation, blusher, eyeshadow, mascara etc - and get off at their stop looking completely different....

I used to see a woman on the commuter train I got doing her full make-up routine every morning without fail. She came on bare faced and put on foundation, then blusher, then complicated eye shadow and liner and pencilled in her eyebrows and did her mascara - even curled her lashes - and lipstick. Now, this was not a woman who had not had time that morning - this was her morning routine!

It seems strange to me because make-up is part of how women represent themselves to the world and to do it in public is like Superman getting into his tights *outside* the phone booth...

Sometimes there are emergencies...but a full face on a packed train or bus is a little much...especially if they have a powder puff that spreads little particles of dust everywhere...bit of lippie is ok for the public but if you really must do a full face, do it at home, or in the loo!

I remember seeing a woman put her make-up on, on the bus: everything from powder to mascara, including using an eyelash curler when the bus was moving. When women do this, you can't help but stare. I noticed everyone was watching this woman doing this. You do wonder whether some do it for the attention. Other women put their make-up on when they are in a rush and don't find doing it in public, uncomfortable. Me? If I have time, I make sure my make-up is done properly; but if I'm in a rush, then I put some shadow on my eyes, curl my lashes, a dab or two of mascara and add some lipbalm then I'm off.
It's not only women who do this. Yesterday, a man got on and he had long hair. I actually thought it was a woman until he turned round. After a couple of seconds, he got out a comb and starting very very slowly, combing his hair. I did think that was very unnecessary and a little odd. I felt a little sorry for the guy sitting behind him.
I think it varies with every person, each to his own.

Don't they have public restrooms for a reason? Seems a little vain to be doing that in public. Your not too hot to trot, and honestly honey, If you've got enough time on the way there to do it, why not spend that extra 15 minutes instead of laggin round in bed before you go somewhere...to get it done right! Especially if you need it that bad anyway...hmm...

Hey Skiddo.....good q....actually I take public transportation and I have done this once or twice or more....when my time was real tight on the morning...and since...the bus drive is over 40 minutes...I make some use of that time..to touch up when my single mom duties at home did not allow me to...
I know some pple here says this is ..unpolite...unneccessary, nasty, bad, wrong..ugly....but believe me ..single folks...to us the busy proffessional..single mom of today ..who has to juggle with bills..., kids' demands.., early lunches being made..aside breakfast, getting the house together..hurrying up the kids..and barely getting a cup of coffee..for momma on the go...sometimes...these tricks are neccesary and we do not give a damn...who sees us with their jaws wide..-open.

I know exactly what it means! It means you are lazy, but at the same time concerned about your appearance. I used to do that years ago... I would sleep late.... I would clock in at work, then go to my desk and put on all my makeup.... I stopped though, years ago. Now I just don't wear any makeup. lol - so now I am just lazy, with little concern about my physical appearance. I gotta good complexion anyways.... I wonder why I ever thought it was something I had to do?

Call me a voyeur but i find it kind of sexy when i watch a lady putting on her make up. Especially when i am driving and she is in the car next to me. I don't know about public transport. Its not that i don't use it but I'm not real sure about the whole make up on public transport thing. In the car, definitely sexy. There is just not enough hours in the day. Who loves spell checkers?

My mother in law does this at the end of a meal in a restaurant, she puts her various products on the table ,then goes on to reapply.I think its rude to be honest.

It annoys me to no end. If you need make-up, wake up earlier and do it at home. Touch ups are fine, but to slap on a bunch in public shows that you are too lazy to get up 10 minutes earlier. And there are certain things that should be done at home, and putting on makeup in my opinion is one of them.

Not really bothered about it, but it is kind of weird, I would wait in anticipation though and hope that we would hit a big bump just as she was putting her lipstick!!
