As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live.
This is what Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said. I kind of agree with that. I would like to know if you think this is right and what about it makes it right? Have you experienced it yourself?
(He actually also said that:" A correct answer is like an affectionate kiss." Do you agree with that?)

I agree.... But qualify it by saying "as soon as you trust" your TRUE SELF, "you will know how to live."

Trusting ego can get you into trouble. Trusting the knowledge passed to you by others can lead to pitfalls when your understanding is incomplete.

Only when we start to see who and what we truly are and trust that self does life seem less about struggle and more about flowing with your true path.

P.S. - "Correct answer... affectionate kiss quote".... I would have to read more about the context he put that in. But I would agree if we're talking about a true, honest, sincere answer holding real emotional content "like an affectionate kiss".

Because we still live in this world that full of temptations, I don't think anyone can totally trust themselves of not to fall into the world. No one can live the rest of their life and not make any more mistake, or not go back to their habits. However, you could say, "I can live better when I know how to trust myself of some decisions I have to make". Also, you could trust yourself with some of the things in life. No one know what tomorrow will bring. Only God knows.

Trusting yourself means having confidence. Hence it makes your life easy to live. I can't totally disagree with that.

A correct answer is like an affectionate kiss? Kiss for the answerer or the questioner?

Depends on what one means by "trusting" oneself. I'd rather choose "knowing" oneself, & even then, it's a constant process of insight, introspection. If you "know" yourself regarding your strengths & weaknesses, (I hate those words!) then certainly your choices in life will be better. You will "know how to live" in a way that works best for YOU. I seem having a problem with "trusting" oneself! I think it applies more to one's trust of another. That a person or thing will not fail in loyalty, duty or service. Just a tad of nuance...
I've come to "know" myself better through a few disciplines, & I believe I've made better choices than in the past. So, in that sense, "you will know how to live" is fairly acceptable to me. What's really important, is if YOU relate to the concept.

Interesting thought. I think that as soon as you trust yourself, you'll have a much easier time making decisions in your life, but I don't think that trusting yourself all of a sudden gives you a green interstate sign as to where to go in your life.

Having confidence and patience with yourself can make how you live your life more pronounced and more uncompromising, which is a great thing. I think that in order to live one's life without regret, trusting yourself is essential, and we can all hope we live our lives without regrets.

As far as experience in this goes, I was dating this guy that was really totally wrong for me, but at first I didn't see it...but while I was dating him, I sort of had an epiphanical moment of self-realization, and I realized who I was, and who he thought I was were different people, and I refused to compromise myself for him, so I ended it...and because I trusted my actions, it didn't hurt as much when it was over.

This is more about believing in yourself. No one would believe in you except YOU. Bear in mind that you must also define yourself and accept your limitations and of course let's not forget our Creator.

I do not agree. For me, it is as soon as I trust in God that I will know how to live. I cannot trust myself or anyone else, just God.

I've come to this conclusion simply based on my life experience.
