A very good question. It is better to have a good answer before the occasion arises. Only for this reason it would be a good idea to have the first female head of State in the US. Just as the wife of a male President is a First Lady the husband of a female President would a a First Gentleman. However, usually, the husbands of female Presidents keep a low profile. Who knows, for instance, the name and the title of the husband of Indira Gandhi or of Megawati?

President William J. Clinton will always be known as President Clinton, even if Sen. Clinton somehow becomes president in 2008, Mr. Clinton will still be known as President Clinton. Listen to the news, 90% of the time they will talk about former president carter or whoever and when the don't say mr. whoever they'll say president.
