I cannot find the 3 digit code touch up paint web sites say is inside the hood. Any other ideas how I might find a burgundy touch up paint close to my color? Car is so old I don't need a perfect match.

once you have the Subaru color codes its easy

go to the major auto parts store chain in your area...

Schucks, Checker, Cragen, Pep Boy's Autozone etc.

find out if they're carrying Plasti Cote brand automotive touch up paints in the spray cans...

from the catalogue againg look up 1986 Subaru and it will give you Plastic cotes codes for those colors...

ask the store to allow you to take the cans close to your color out to the car... (do this in bright sunlight for best match) the lid on the can is a very good reference to the color...

get the one that matches the closest.... it will make the repaired spots almost invisible done correctly

tHE PAINT CODE SHOULD BE ON AN ALUMINUM TAG ON THE FIREWALL BEHIND THE ENGINE. If you can't find it, call the dealer. They may be able to tell you what it is if you give them the v.i.n.
