Well done you!! I hope you stay off the fags after you have the baby too as smoking around babies is still dangerous. The best advice is to stay away from smokers until you don't feel like you could succombe to a cigarette and also chew lots of gum.
I spoke with my widwife recently and she told me that even mothers that tell them they have quit they can tell by looking at the placenta after delivery. This will have dead fatty bits so there is no fooling them LOL.
All the best!

Hi Honey
I was a smoker too & kept having the odd one up until I was 5 months pregnant as I was finding it so hard to give up completley. However I am nearly 7 months now & haven't had a cigarette since I was 5 months. I didn't use patches & found the best way to give up was just to stop. I still have cravings but if you can ride them out for about 3 minutes then they actually go away. The longer you've given up for the easier it gets as you know all the hard work you'd be throwing away. It takes a lot of willpower but if you keep focused on your baby & the reason why you're giving up I have every confidence that you'll do it. Good luck chick !

I used the patch three years ago almost to the date to quit and have never cheated, I am so glad I stopped. Some things that really helped me is find your weakness, mine always was talking on the phone. I always smoked outside and would usually talk on the phone while I smoked so whenever I had a craving I would grab the phone and a lollipop and go sit outside till it was gone, that way I wasn't changing my routine at all. I would also put a mint in my mouth or brush my teeth after I ate to curve the after dinner smoke. So I have replaced the need for cigarette with the need for a mint, in fact to this day I grave the taste of mint after I eat. Keep in mind you will prob always have craving I still do, but I will never smoke again. Think of that healthy baby you will be having I wish you luck.

I used blow pops. Probably not as good as fresh fruit and veggies, but it really worked. First, you have the hand to mouth simulation while working the pop, then you chew the gum for a while. Soon, the urge comes on again, and you break out a new flavor and work the system all over again. It really worked for me. Good luck!! It takes alot of desire to keep it working. All the best to you and hubby with your new baby. Oh, this probably isn't the best thing to tell you, but not smoking the first 3 months is the most imperative. If you end up failing, be confident in the great beginning you gave to the baby. Again, GOOD LUCK!!!!

The patches are great. My Brother quit smoking with the patch. The trick is if you feel the craving to have a cigarette find something to keep your hands busy. Between this and the patch, You will become smoke free in no time...

Good for you and to your hubby too.No matter what they give you they will only work if you are determined in your own mind to give up and can maintain this determination for quite a while. The big points in your favour is that you and your husband can give each other lots of support, much easier than trying to do it on your own,and the expected baby. You both know that smoking can harm the baby both while you are expecting and after it is born and as it is the biggest thing in your lives at the moment you both want to do the right thing for it. With best wishes to you both and lots of luck.

Well done, I gave up four weeks ago when I found out I was pregnant. I haven't used anything to help me, I just stopped after 21 years. I never thought I would do it, I've really surprised myself!!! I still get cravings though, but they are fading slowly.
I think the thing that made it easy for me was reading how much harm smoking can cause an unborn child, it's so unfair, the guilt alone was enough to make me stop!!!
Congratulations and make sure you quit!!!

Good for you! I gave up with my two babies (sadly I was back on them soon afterwards) but it's really the best thing you can do. You need to support each other (it's harder for the man as he's not pregnant) very well and just keep a picture in your head of your beautiful, pure, innocent new born who's going to be born without the damage of nicotine - just think of the passive smoking advert (at the wedding) where all the black unseen 'poison' is going into the children's lungs. Keep at it girl and many congratulations!

Well done! Try to change your routine a bit. If there are regular times when you would usually smoke - ie. in the car, when having a coffee etc. - try to do something differently. For example, if you usually smoke in the car, try taking a different route or listen to a language learning tape or something to take your mind off it. Try to avoid being around other smokers too. And think of keeping that lovely little baby healthy.
Good luck!
