when i try to defrag my computer it says the snap in failed.How do i fix this?

Windows defrag has issues at times with the defragging process, use a third party defragger such as Disk Defrag form Auslogics.

The defrag snap in is called dfrg.msc . It should be in windows\system32, at least on my computer it is.

See if you can get a copy off your windows CD or the recovery partition or however your computer restores stuff. Try to search for dfrg. and see if you can find one. If you do, copy it to the system32 folder. If you find dfrg.ms_ you have to do an expand. Note the location (let's pretend it's c:\i386). In the run box type:

expand c:\i386\dfrg.ms_ c:\windows\system32\dfrg.msc

and try again.

I dont care for the windows defrager..... try a free 3rd party program....

right click on drive c and d go to properties on each tool, scandisk for errors, check box both opitions for scandisk, click yes it need to run scandisk when u reboot, then reboot after it fix it then u can run defrag

first you should be logged as adminstrator then do scan disk before defrag
