Inter school debates are a good thing. Let us use an analogy. Say that debates are like the sport of football. Would you practice for weeks in the summer and then weekly during the school year only to continue to scrimmage amongst yourselves? Would the athletes want to forgo the Friday night games? No, of course not. To quote an old adage, "Practice makes perfect", but what are you practicing for? The inter-school debate is the big game that participants are looking for to use the techniques they have been practicing in an actual debate. A lot of effort is put in by the teachers to groom students in content and methodology in public speaking which can be effectively utilized in the Inter-school debate. Inter school debates bring outside ideas to the debaters. Debtors can hear and see how issues are viewed by other communities in the expressed views presented. The Inter-school event provides an excellent platform for the articulate from both communities to show their stuff, impress their piers, parents and teachers. This platform not only exposes the students to the ideas, but the members of the audience that would not otherwise be in attendance.

Use this for brain-food and see what you develop. Good luck, let us know how you do!
