I've always heard front to back...

I suppose if you put your t-shirt on the wrong way round it's because the front is more important as it's the bit you see in the mirror and the bit others see when they meet you!

And why is a somersault a 'head over heels' ? When it's clearly a 'heels over head'?

Back to front is just unsanitary.It's always front to back.

Just custom I suppose. You could say either but it is second nature to say back to front.
