You have good depth but yea it would be a good idea to drop garciaparra for helton. First of all Helton plays every day and garciaparra is a huge injury risk. Helton played last year after suffering a horrific stomach ailment, lost 20 lbs and while his overall numbers suffered he did post very good numbers after the All Star break (a good indicater that he still has top potential as a 1st baseman). Plus he is surrounded by a better lineup and provided he stays healthy he should return to his career averages. And he would be a better option at 1st than Swisher anyways, Swisher has better power but across the board heltons numbers are better (and Swishers BA is pretty brutal compared to Helton).

Definitely get Helton for Garciaparra...

I think Helton will have a great season this year... even if his power doesn't return, he'll be hitting around Holliday and Atkins and should be able to score plenty of runs and drive in a bunch as well - plus he plays at Coors which is one of the most hitter friendly ballparks in the league... Nomar plays in one of the most pitcher friendly ballparks in the league and has a worse lineup around him in my opinion

even if you dont use helton right now, it will be better to have him on your team instead of someone else's. plus swisher tends to bat for a low average whereas helton will bat over .320 like usual with atkins and holiday in the lineup to help him.

Make the move and hope nobody else does.

Garciaparra is great when he plays, but how often is that? 100 games maximum, right?

Helton might be traded (I think he still might) to a contender. He's solid for AVG, hits, some RBI. You can always trade him especially if he gets traded to a powerhouse squad.

If he's been dropped, though, you probably have to have priority 1 or 2 to be in position to pick him up. I think most people would do it in a flash even without the two players you mentioned at 1st Base (both of them I would have started ahead Nomar anyway). With them there, it's a no-brainer.
