upwards as they propell the cuttings into the grass box and if fitted the wrong way round the blades will gouge the grass instead of cutting it and its also dangerous as the blade might break and fling it out from underneath the mower

The ends should fit upwards so they can sling the grass out. With them down you would be cutting with the back of the blade and digging into the yard also.

I would say down, as the blade acts as a propeller, sucking the grass up as it cuts, The leading edge of the blade should be the sharpened one.

The bevel of the blade cutting edge,needs to be at the front, hitting the grass as it spins, if you have them upside down the back edge of the blade will hit the grass first
