Short answer: No it's quite an outdated card.
If you want to play the latest games in good performance you'll have to spend a bit more and maybe look at 7xxx series cards such as 7600 gt and above, although cards such as 6800 gt will suffice. you can pick them up on ebay for not too much

DON'T BUY IT!
I got the GeForce FX5500 over THREE years ago and it was already out for about a year back then. A year later it had already failed to catch up to the then-latest graphics. Now you're talking about the 5300... don't even bother. You should consider buying a 7 series at least a 7300 or upwards with PCI-E or SLi ability which will probably last you for about 3ish more years or so.
If you really want a gaming Gfx card at an afforable price, may I suggest the GF7900GT or GTX? It's the best graphics card out there under $300. If you have some money to spend you can definitely go for the 8 series which is the most top-noch right now.

No, you will get some serious lag with that one....at a minimum for todays games, you will need the 7000 series video cards....
I have a 5600 in my moms computer, and it wont even play games just a couple years old without glitching....
The shading technology in todays graphics are just way to much for a 5000 series......

It is outdated now, personally i would go with x1900 ati card for around £100 it will be well worth it! it has the edge over Nvidia's mid range cards as you can FSAA & HDR at the same time :)

Not even a chance, it's to old. If you have an AGP slot this is about as good as it gets for you. Check link below.
