Yes it is! Im a referee and its god awful. I know when I have made a mistake and know that I cant take it back or you lose face - i always apologise at the end of the match to let the teams know I know i had a stinker but ask them to put themselves in my position.

When I lived in Canada, I used to ref matches at the amateur level. In the heat of the battle, it is not possible to follow every movement of all 20 outfield players. Not even with three sets of eyes. So what you do is, keep your eyes on the ball and the feet around it. When a player is moving at speed and there's defenders tracking back to halt his progress, if the attacker goes down, the rule of thumb is to rule in their favour, unless you know with certainty it was incidental contact, or a clean tackle. If the ball is in front of all the players concerned and you can't see fully what happens, rule in favour of the defence unless there is a blatant foul. Whichever way you go, there will always be someone or ones that will protest and comment on your decision, the size of your penis and/or testicles, the professional career of your wife/mother, the genetic origins of your family and the fact that you probably have the brains of a sack of hair. And you have to listen to this abuse match after match, and that's just from the players. Nowadays, I wouldn't ref a match for a bowl full of sunny days. However, having said that, I do think the ref of the Australia-Italy match last summer, has alot to answer for, in awarding the Italians an undeserved penalty with moments remaining in the match. I bet he has a small penis, his wife sleeps around, his family has ugly monkeys as ancestors and he has the brains of a nail clipping.

Granted they take a lot of stick, but they knew what the job was like when they decided to become one, It has never been any different in all the years I have been watching Football. So NO I do not feel sorry for Referees.

I think this is more than difficult as players sometimes when they are frustrated they just tease and blame the referee and this is not easy to take.
Thanx!

Yes it is very hard & sometimes I feel a bit sorry for them. However, when they make wrong decisions that are blatantly wrong I get frustrated.

With all the cheating and dishonesty that happens on the field of play today, its almost impossible for them to do a proper job.

Me too! It's got to be a very pressuring job...The game depends on the calls they make.
