There is no link to ultrasounds and birth defects. You don't absolutely have to have an ultrasound if you don't want to, but there's no need to worry that it will harm your baby.

Ask your doctor why he's doing all these Ultrasounds? When I had my first child I had very frequent Ultrasounds but it was because I'm amnemic and since my iron is already low and pregnancy causes you to lose a lot of iron my doctor was just being careful. Everything turned out fine.
I just had twins 6 months ago and during that pregnancy I had even more Ultrasounds, around 24 weeks I started having to go in for an Ultrasound every week to make sure I was in good condition. I had a few complications but in the end everything turned out okay. The complications were do to excess loss of iron though not the Ultrasounds.

It has been found out through thorough research, ultrasound is merely sound energy, at a frequency so high that the human ear cannot hear it. This sound wave is not harmful to the human foetus, and to date has not been known to cause any abnormalities.
And these ultrasounds are really important as it accurately dates the pregnancy and allows the doctor to determine the estimated date of delivery.
The ultrasound is also performed later on in your pregnancy, whereby the major structures and organs of the foetus are screened for abnormalities. Each organ such as the brain, eyes, mouth, heart, lungs, spine, stomach, gut and limbs are screened methodically. Abnormalities such as brain defects, hole-in-hearts and missing limbs are discovered during this scan. At the same time, the placenta is scanned to ensure that it is not covering the birth canal and the sex of the foetus can usually be determined at this juncture.
And therefore, the doctors are able to solve complications, which will otherwise go unnoticed.

I would not worry if it was so dangerous your DR wouldn't be having you do it. In moderation. I believe too much can be harmful. That came out when Tom Cruise bought Katie her own ultra sound machine so they can see the baby everyday.

I had several ultrasounds done. One at 4wks to see where the baby planted itself in the uterus I had a stone. Then again with my OB. Then I had 4 3-D ultrasounds done. My little one is about 13 months now and is healthy as can be she has only been sick 3 times. All with colds and they were not as bad as what had been going around at the time according to her Ped.

That is an awful lot of ultrasounds. Usually one around 3 mos of pregnancy and one around 8 months. Why is the doctor doing this so frequently? I would ask him or refuse to have the 3rd until you have a chat with him. Ask him if something is wrong. If he/she says not then ask if it is really necessary to do a 3rd if the other two look normal. I am surprised that your insurance company is allowing this many.

ultrasounds are routine and there is nothing about them can hurt u or your baby, if they were not safe do u think doctors would recommend them? I had a total of 16 ultrasounds with my first son due to a very complicated pregnancy and now he is 6 and he is fine. You have nothing to worry about and stop listening to your friends.

ultrasounds are a wonderful tool in monitoring your baby's development, although your friends are right to a point ,you should not have unnecessary ultrasounds, if your pregnancy is normal and you don't feel comfortable with so many ultrasounds you should talk to your doctor, not any doctor is the right doctor for you , i visited two doctors and finally settled with a midwife before i finally felt comfortable.maybe who need to find a doc who is less invasive
