A weak sector is a sector that seems to easily fail data verification checks. This means that the data copied from the original media seems to be copiable but the copied data doesn't seem to be the same as the original one.

While a damaged sector is a sector of the media that the reader cannot read to, either the media is damaged or perhaps an implementation of copy protection.

Basically your CD/DVD copying software would abort the copying process if the drive cannot copy the data from the original media. However, sometimes, they are just implementation of copy protection schemes which could confuse those software.

You can try setting the program to continue copying even when it cannot copy the media correctly and see if the copied/backup media performs well.
