The range that one can receive wireless Wi-Fi signals depends on many things. These include how far the wireless router broadcasts, interference found along the path, how well the wireless receiver receives the Wi-Fi signals, etc. Usually, you can pick up the wireless wi-fi about 100 meters away from the router, but, again, this depends on the above factors. Good luck with your wi-fi on your laptop. Remember that some hotels, cafes (like starbucks) have complimentary wireless internet, so you can use it when you go places like that as well =)
