So true, and it's why I cant understand why there's so much child abuse.

I know what you are saying - I believe that there are different kinds of true love. I felt & still do feel a true love for my husband but it's different from the absolute love that I have for my child. I suppose it's because the nature of the relationship is different. I also love some of my friends. The question being which is the greater - I suppose that the ultimate love is that of a parent to a child but it doesn't diminish the nature of the other loves that are possible - in my humble opinion!

The word love is used so flipantly these days. Me and my son offen discuss what it means, he is 7.
I say to him that you can tell you love someone when the thought of them getting hurt, or being upset, makes you feel terrible. You need them to make feel whole.
I cant imagine loving or needing anyone as much or more than i love my child. Even just thinking about how much i love him fills me up, makes me whole. He is a part of me that if taken away, would kill me, literally.
I love and need my husband too, but its not the same as how much i love my son, it could never be.
From the first moment that you see your baby, you have a connection that is unbreakable. Theres no meeting someone, dating, its instant, like a bolt of electricity.
But then you look at animals that would defend their babies from anything, humans are the same. If your child is hurt a switch gets flipped in your heart and you react, you probably dont even know your doing it.
Its Pure Love.

Hello, yes I am afraid there is, it's in the Bible and it reads, " greater love hath no man, but that love, when he lays down his life that another might live.
But your idea that a parents love is wonderful for their own child is a fairly close second to the Bibles quotation, even I have kissed all four of my own xhildren within minutes of their birth, as fortunately I was there for their arrival into this world, thank God they were all perfect, and I have also loved all my 7 adopted children too, and probably much more than the parents that gave them life, as my adopted children are all from broken homes, and I have raised them with my wife into adulthood and they are all now out into the world, and God Love and Bless them, for the Love they all gave to my wife and myself as their loving parents, there is a downside to this true story, we, as parents are now too old to raise any more babies, as I am retired and my wife is due to retire in a few years......whenever my children said to me " I love you Daddy" you can bet whatever, I really did and still do believe them....Bye...Tony M

Your right, it is an unbreakable bond between parents and children the love is unconditional and It will never change, love between the opposite sex is never unconditional and can easily be broken or just faded away.
Its a shame not all parents feel like that for their children.

In my opinion NO, i would do anything to protect my children, unconditional love all the way, you may be lucky to have many great loves in your life, but untill you have a child, then you experience real true love....

i totally agree. it's difficult to comprehend just how much u can love another person until u are a parent. when i gave birth to my son, i was totally unprepared for how strong and fierce my feelings of love and protection would be towards him as i'd never experienced anything like it before.

I totally agree.
I would fight a tiger blind folded and with one hand tied behind my back for my kids.
I love a lot of people but i wouldn't do that for anyone else.
Except maybe my brother, but he's like my child anyway.
