I went to YouTube to hear both. The song is Cohen's by right but his singing talent is not that exceptional, is it? Reminds me of Bruce Springstein, who also writes far better than he sings. Jeff's version is heartfelt and emotional, his voice is more melodious. While at YouTube I found this version by Allison Crowe, which I had never heard but feel is the best of the bunch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIMOdVXAPJ0
This song is about hope. It keeps showing back up because we continue to need hope.
